Description
Learn the art of fiber dyeing with a nationally known professional – Ellen Minard of Ellen’s 1/2 Pint Farm in Vermont. The workshop begins with the basics of hand-painting yarn and moves into more advanced techniques such as tonals, speckled, and gradients.
Saturday: Workshop 9:00 am – 5:00 pm
Sunday: Workshop 9:00 am – 5:00 pm*
Beginning on Saturday, April 5 through Sunday, April 6, Ellen returns to Chelsea for a Friday night reception and two days of intensive, hands-on experience with yarn dyeing!
This is the master dyer that indies have turned to for decades when they decide to learn the craft. Saturday and Sunday workshops are held at the Chelsea Depot.
Workshop fees include a top-quality skein of fingering-weight merino yarn, all dyes, snacks, and refreshments (morning and afternoon). Additional yarn will be available in several weights and fibers at reduced prices.
Join us on Friday night for a reception and trunk show at Artisan Knitworks.
Veterans of the workshops will attest to her spectacular teaching ability. It’s not just for beginners: Experienced hand-dyers augment their skills and benefit from a conversation with one of the nation’s best-known crafters.
*NOTE: While the Sunday workshops generally are designed as a continuation of the Saturday sessions, experienced dyers can attend the Sunday workshop only for $100.00 as space permits. Call Artisan Knitworks after April 16 to check on availability.
If you are coming from out of town, we recommend the Comfort Inn, Chelsea, which is a short drive to Artisan Knitworks. Make reservations early or you’ll be disappointed.
Cost: One day, $100.00; both days, $180.00. Includes all dyes, a skein of fingering yarn, snacks, and refreshments.
The workshop is limited to 18 students. We reserve the right to check for vaccination cards. Thanks for understanding this requirement. Masks are optional.
For most classes, we hope you’ll use our beautiful yarns! We offer a 10% discount on full-priced materials for class use.
All classes include detailed handouts or (as relevant) printed patterns.
Classes may require a minimum number of participants. If Artisan Knitworks or the instructor has to cancel, a full refund (check), registration in another class, or store credit (120% of tuition) will be offered. If you have to cancel your class registration up to 7 days before the event, we offer the same choices. However, we cannot offer these choices if you cancel within the 7-day window.
