Description
Canada’s Lucy Neatby (from an island near Nova Scotia) is renowned for her technically advanced, often zany woolen creations (double-knitted hexagonal blankets, e.g.). Smaller projects include scarves and shawls constructed from huge geometric shapes as well as collars and jewelry made from circular or oval chain links, running the gamut from simple to visually complicated. In this workshop, we will create a chain-link necklace or garland (depending on gauge of yarn), with or without earrings, in the colors of your choice from among our collection of miniature skeins or skein bundles. You do NOT need to be a knitter or crocheter to make these delightful links. But, in the process, you will learn two basic knitting moves – a simple way to cast on stitches and the all-important knit stitch. And knitted K-cords have a wide range of uses, including as drawstrings and washcloth loops, or as a substitute for ribbon.
In addition, participants will learn three ways to join the ends of tubes (called I-cords) invisibly. Class fee includes a multi-page Lucy Neatby pattern leaflet (value $10.00). Yarn can be purchased on site on the workshop date or in advance. This is a great way to forget about everything and PLAY for a few hours!
