12/1 – The Mad Hatter Does Crochet!

Description

Artisan Knitworks loves hats – everyone knows that.  But – hats don’t have to be knitted.  Crochet is surging right now, and for good reason.  In this fun workshop, you’ll test-drive the methods and basic shapes that underlie all of our crocheted hats — bottom up, top down, and side to side.   Once you master the basics, you can make hundreds of wonderful hats without buying expensive patterns.  You can mix yarns (and use up stray balls), or you can choose one beautiful yarn in almost any weight (we don’t recommend lace weight or fingering yarns for this class).  You’ll take home a detailed roadmap (handout).   If you don’t remember basic crochet stitches, stop by in advance for a quick lesson at a ridiculously low price.  If time permits, we will play with a thirty-minute Tunisian crochet hat – just for the fun of it.  Then you can take Cheryl Spitale Jones’ Tunisian class!

Level:  Advanced beginner (must know chain, single, half-double, and double crochet stitches). 

Materials:  100 grams natural-fiber yarn in DK, worsted, or chunky weight; appropriate hook (DK, size F or G, worsted, size H or I, chunky size J or K).  Superbulky and mega-hooks will be fine in the future, but for purposes of this workshop, avoid them.  If possible, bring a range of hooks.  Note:  You can also bring a pile of leftovers in fingering, DK or worsted weight – avoid chunky weight.  We will talk about how to combine yarns to wonderful effect. 

Homework:  Work a 4-inch square in single crochet using an appropriate hook.  Leave yarn attached.

Class limit: Minimum 3/Maximum 9

All classes include detailed handouts or (as relevant) printed patterns.

Classes may require a minimum number of participants.  If Artisan Knitworks or the instructor has to cancel, a full refund (check), registration in another class, or store credit (120% of tuition) will be offered.  If you have to cancel your class registration up to 7 days before the event, we offer the same choices.  However, we cannot offer these choices if you cancel within the 7-day window.
