6/8 MAGIC SQUARES: Weaving with a Pin Loom

Description

Recently, pin-loom weaving has resurged in popularity. You can make garments, blankets, accessories, and more – without knowing how to knit or crochet, or (for that matter) weave. The looms are small enough to be handheld, they’re portable, they come in all shapes and sizes, they’re great for stash-busting, and they’re fun, fun, fun! In this class we’ll talk about different kinds of pin looms, the various yarns that can be used, plain and patterned designs, and – most importantly – what to make with all those squares! You’ll learn the basic three-warp method of weaving and take home your very own 4-inch pin loom and a mug rug for your morning coffee or tea!

Materials: Multiple balls of smooth worsted-weight wool or other natural fiber, at least 50 grams each (sturdy resin pin loom will be supplied, value 30.00. If you have one, bring an Afro hair pick).

About the instructor:
Sara Rakow started her fiber journey working for Knit-A-Round in Ann Arbor for 10 years. She taught various classes including Learn to Knit and Beginning Fair Isle.
She got into spinning when a friend needed more people for her Spinzilla team. It was true love from there! She developed a love for all things wool, including basic weaving, and a fascination with the many breeds of sheep, the individual characteristics of their wool, and their uses. Sara is part owner of WheelyCoolFiber where she is Head Dyer and is responsible for the procurement of wool.

For most classes, we hope you’ll use our beautiful yarns! We offer a 10% discount on full-priced materials for class use.

All classes include detailed handouts or (as relevant) printed patterns.

Classes may require a minimum number of participants; if Artisan Knitworks or the instructor has to cancel full refund (check) or store credit will be offered.

If you have to cancel your class registration within 7 days of the event,  Artisan Knitworks offers a choice between 120% of your class fee for in-store merchandise, registration in another listed class, or a refund check for the amount paid.  We cannot offer these choices within the 7-day window.
