Description

Using double-pointed needles (DPNs) is the “classic” way to knit tubular items such as socks, hats, and mittens. Although they can appear daunting if you’ve never used them, double-pointed needles can make projects with a small circumference a little easier to handle. They can also make color work and decreasing stitches for a toe or top of a hat a bit easier to manage. In this session, we’ll use socks as our case study.   We’ll cast on knit for a while to gain comfort with DPNs, and move to sock construction.  Because time is limited, our sock will have a very short leg and short foot so that you can practice turning the heel and decreasing for the toe without rushing.

Skill level:  Advanced beginner (basics, plus comfortable with long-tail cast-on, increasing and decreasing, and binding off).

Materials:  About 50 grams of fingering or DK weight yarn.  Set of DPNs appropriate to the yarn weight (size 1 or 2 fingering, 4 or 5 DK).  Sets of 5 needles are best, but 4 can be accommodated. Yarn and tools are available at Artisan Knitworks (10% class discount).

For most classes, we hope you’ll use our beautiful yarns! We offer a 10% discount on full-priced materials to be used in the class.

All classes include detailed handouts or (as relevant) printed patterns.

Classes may require a minimum number of participants.  If Artisan Knitworks or the instructor has to cancel, a full refund (check), registration in another class, or store credit (120% of tuition) will be offered.  If you have to cancel your class registration up to 7 days before the event, we offer the same choices.  However, we cannot offer these choices if you cancel within the 7-day window.
