Learn to Knit – Summer-School Marathon (2 sessions)

Description

This two-part intensive workshop explores the basics of knitting (e.g., casting on, the knit and purl stitches, casting off) in the first session.  We’ll also talk about the variety of yarns, fibers, and tools; Continental knit stitch as a fast alternative to English-style knit stitches; the structure of stitches (so that can easily correct errors); and rudimentary finishing (such as darning in ends or adding new yarn). 

In a second session, we’ll add a wide array of shaping and pattern stitches.  We’ll also address technical problems that often plague beginning knitters, such as reading patterns, regulating tension, and avoiding bad patterns.  You will emerge an advanced beginner knitter, ready to go on to a range of knitted accessories, apparel, and home goods.  As a graduation gift, we’ll give you a free hat pattern and teach you to cast on in the round.  You can finish the hat at your leisure and come back to learn how to finish the crown.      

Materials:   Size 8 or 9 cabled knitting needle, 16 inch, wood or metal, and 100 grams worsted weight smooth, light-colored yarn (e.g., Encore, Vintage, Galway).  We hope that you will buy supplies at Artisan Knitworks.

Homework:  None.  But let us know by e-mail ([email protected]) whether you are left or right-handed. 

For most classes, we hope you’ll use our beautiful yarns! We offer a 10% discount on full-priced materials to be used in the class.

*For stash-buster classes, you surely may use your own yarns mixed with ours.

All classes include detailed handouts or (as relevant) printed patterns.

Classes may require a minimum number of participants; if Artisan Knitworks or the instructor has to cancel full refund (check) or store credit will be offered.

If you have to cancel your class registration within 7 days of the event,  Artisan Knitworks offers a choice between 120% of your class fee for in-store merchandise, registration in another listed class, or a refund check for the amount paid.  We cannot offer these choices within the 7-day window.
